WISHING TREE
From the roots of choral singing to the flowering of a tradition
Embark on a captivating vocal journey with The Gesualdo Six as they weave together a rich tapestry of exquisite vocal consort music. Spanning five centuries, the programme moves from Renaissance reflections on nature and love to contemporary settings that breathe new life into the poetry of Christina Rossetti and Kathleen Jamie. Along the way, works exploring childhood conjure moments of innocence which are lost and then found. Interwoven throughout are re-imaginings of traditional British folk songs, arranged by musicians continuing a longstanding tradition of reshaping existing material. Wishing Tree brings these strands together in a programme that invites listeners into a world where past and present meet, and where poetry, memory, and song are rooted in tradition yet alive with contemporary expression.
“The Gesualdo Six are outstanding, shifting impeccably from renaissance polyphony to twenty-first century music.”
